Coach Darren Ripley’s coaching career spanned 32 years, including the last 22 years either as the head or co-head coach of the Scott West Panther Wrestling program. The 2019-20 wrestling season will end up being Coach Ripley’s final season leading the Panthers, as he announced his retirement last week. ” I would personally like to thank former Jordan High School Principal Mr. Mark Ruggeberg as he had the confidence and trust to select me to be the Scott West Wrestling coach during the programs most important time of transition back in 1998-99,” said coach Ripley.
The Scott West Wrestling program is well known not only Minnesota, but through out the midwest, as coach Ripley has had success in bringing his teams to Iowa, Wisconsin, and the Dakotas. He is also known for working in some of his history teaching curriculum during the memorable Scott West summer camp trips that crossed the Nation. “It has been one of the great opportunities of my life to help lead and coach such an outstanding wrestling program over the last 22 years as Scott West Wrestling is not only highly regarded throughout the state of Minnesota but throughout the country as well with National Team Rankings in 2011 and 2012.” Coach Ripley also went on to say, ” While I will always be proud of our success on the mat over the course of those years that are highlighted by 15 Section 2AA Team Championships, 4 State Team Runner-up and 6 State Team 3rd place Finishes along with 5 Rumble on the Red Team Championships up in Fargo, it is also the development of physically and mentally tough young men with the traits of Desire, Drive and Dedication along with the relationships within the program itself and the greater wrestling community that I will cherish most.”
Ripley will continue in his role as Jordan Middle School history teacher, and will always have wrestling be a part of his life. His presence and historical knowledge of the smart will most certainly be missed. “In closing I would like to thank all of the people that have supported Scott West Wrestling throughout the years including the administration, office and custodial personnel, but most importantly the Scott West Parents and Fans, Coaches and Wrestlers as we intensely continued to pursue The Tradition of Success that is Scott West Wrestling!!!”
“It’s a Great Day to be a Scott West Panther!!!” –Darren A. Ripley
