Freshman Lily Hyer is our fourth Love Maroon Live Gold Athlete of the Week! Lily has been doing cross country for the past 3 years but found her passion for running 5 years ago. This year, she placed 2nd at the Orono Triangular meet with a time of 20:27. “The fastest time of the year for the team”, said her coach Ben Nylander. Additionally, Lily’s lifetime PR from last year is tied for the 4th fastest 5k in Jaguar history. Lily’s talents have greatly impacted the girl’s cross country team and will continue to do so in the future! Learn more about Lily below:

How long have you been doing your sport? 

This is my third year doing Cross Country, but I’ve been running for about five years.


What is your pregame meal? 

I usually eat Goldfish before meets.


What is your favorite memory?

My favorite memory was when we won the conference last year.


Do you have any superstitions? 

I guess I don’t have any “superstitions” but something I always do is smile at the 

cameras when I’m racing.


If you had one superpower what would it be and why?

If I had one superpower it would be invisibility, because I could do anything without anyone knowing.


If you could choose one teammate to be stuck on a deserted island with who would it be and why? 

If I had to pick a teammate to be stuck on a deserted island with, it would be Sophie Keiser because we are super close, she is hilarious and she’s easy to talk to.


Who is your favorite athlete? 

My favorite athlete is Eric Bledsoe because he is a great athlete, an amazing person, and he works super hard.


Do you have any nicknames? If so, how did it become your nickname? 

I don’t really have any nicknames, besides Hyer, and Lil.


What sport do you wish you could play? Why? 

Sometimes I wish I could Swim because my mom and aunts were all very good swimmers in high school.


Which teammate do you admire the most? Why? 

I admire Abby Vizenor the most because she is the kindest person you will ever meet, and she just gets me. She is such a good role model, she’s supportive and is so fun to be around.


What’s your favorite food? 

My favorite food is Goldfish.


If you’re having a bad day what cheers you up? 

Something that cheers me up on a bad day is listening to some good music and going for a drive.


What is your favorite TV show? 

My favorite shows are Grey’s Anatomy and Criminal Minds.


What’s your favorite quote? 

My favorite quote is “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” -Unknown.
